Stolen Ethnic Background is a series in progress. I ask people I find in different places in the World to allow me to portrait them while they look to the sun. Having realized it in Scotland, India and the US, the work depicts very different race and ethnic people. While protecting themselves from the strong light, they repeat a similar gesture. Metaphorically, they lose their identity. Light is a key element in photography. Anyhow, the portrait -a classical genre of this medium- is annulated here while people depicted look so alike. The “search for light” has also been a common destination in the history of human kind. In Stolen Ethnic Background this struggle turns into a reaction to its excess as well. I am interesting to look after contemporary meanings of these ideas, while observing people.
